Andrew (Andy) Conaway, Jr. of Seaford departed this life on March 31, 2022 to go rest in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Born on April 11, 1938, Andy was born to Andrew Conaway, Sr., and Katherine Parsons Conaway, the third in the line of six children. Andy graduated from Seaford High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, followed by over 35 years at the E.I. Dupont Nylon Plant in Seaford, working his way up to supervisor. After “retirement” from Dupont, he worked at the Napa Parts Store in Seaford, then as a courier for Cardinal Health delivering life-saving medications to area hospitals. Andy loved traveling and had been to 49 of the 50 states. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it.” He was always making improvements to his home. Andy was an absolute treasure.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Dykes Conaway; step-daughters, Kathy Jo Nichols (Frank) and Cindy Lee Burritt (Matt); daughter, Sondra Ann Messick; daughter-in-law, Brenda Whaley Conaway; grandchildren, Jeremiah Andrew Conaway, Robert Bagwell, Morgan Vanderwende; step-grandchildren, Diana Real, Brittany Hitch, John Hitch, Lily Burritt, Juliet Burritt; great-grandchildren, Damonte Walker, and Jaggar Real. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald R. Conaway; sisters, Madeline Hudson, Darlene Tapman (Bryan), Joanne Mitchell (Donald); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Fay Hill Conaway; son, Craig Andrew Conaway; brother, Roland E. Conaway; sisters-in-law, Betty R. Conaway and Doris Jean Conaway, and brother-in-law, Vernon Hudson.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on Friday, April 8 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m.-noon. Pastor Barry Dukes will officiate. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made in Mr. Conaway’s honor to the Connection Church, 28714 Seaford Road, Laurel, Delaware 19956. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
