Mary Lee Johnson Adkins, formally from Blades, passed away peacefully Aug. 11, 2021.

Mary Lee was born Dec. 2, 1945, to the late Floyd “Scappy” Johnson and Jeanne Ewell Johnson.

After graduating from Seaford High School in 1964 she married and raised her daughters in Fruitland. She worked as a receiving supervisor at Boscov’s before retiring. Mary Lee was a member of Laurel American Legion and Blades Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She loved going to the beach and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed watching her hummingbirds, putting puzzles together and playing with her dog Jingle “Belle”.

Everyone’s Mom-Mom, she loved caring for all her kids, grandkids and all their friends. She had a sense of humor like no other. She was always trying new things to keep up and hang with the kids. She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, William “Butch” Adkins; her twin brother, Marty Johnson; her sister, Faith Ann Whaley; and her niece, Kelly Dunning.

She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Adkins Bireley (Todd) of Delmar and Bethany Adkins Larmore (John) of Georgetown; three grandsons, Michael Bireley (Breck), Christopher Bireley (Felicia) and Alex Larmore; one great-granddaughter, Serena Bireley; her brother Greg Johnson of Seaford and many wonderful cousins. Mary Lee also leaves behind her companion of over 20 years, Albert French of Greenwood, and many beloved ‘step’ children and grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford. Interment was at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
