Roland E. Marker Sr. of Seaford passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born at Milford Hospital, son of the late Harvey and Gertrude (Short) Marker.
Roland was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. He also served in the Korean War. Roland retired from the Laurel School District in 1992.
Roland was a hardworking man all his life. He loved being outside cutting his grass and took a lot of pride in his home and yard. Roland really loved cooking for his beloved wife, Betty. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Betty Marker (Messick); his son, Preston S. Hope; his grandson, Roland E. Marker III (Buddy); his sisters Elizabeth Meredeth and Helen Webb and his brother-in-law Walter Leipold.
Roland is survived by his two sons: Roland E. Marker Jr. (Sonny), and Charles E. Marker (Butch); his two daughters: Debbie Pusey, and Shirley Henry; his grandchildren: Billy Layfield, Johnny Littleton, Laurie Bayliss, Jodi Hope, Shayne Marker, Charles Marker, and Kellie Marker; his five great-grandchildren: JT Littleton, Shelby Layfield, Caitlin Littleton, Ayden Layfield, and Brandon Marker; his sister Pat Donnelly (Mike); and his sister-in-law, Pat Leipold.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 18 at Watson-Yates Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Seaford.
