Jeanne Harrison Quinn
Jeanne Harrison Quinn died peacefully at her home in Fort Myers on Sept. 22, 2026. Jeanne was predeceased by her father, George Henry Harrison; mother, Verna Cecilia Altvater; husband, Howard V. Quinn; and grandson, Patrick Ryan Foley. She is survived by all four of her children: Patricia Jeanne Quinn of Fort Myers, Deb Quinn and husband Ed Walters of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Bob Quinn and wife Mary Ellen of Athens, Georgia, and Jeannette Cowan and husband Bill of Lewes. She also is survived by six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne had recently celebrated her 100th birthday with all of her children present. Jeanne was born in Williamsport, Pa., where she lived with her parents and younger brother. After her father died when she was 10, she and her family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. There, she completed high school as an honor student and two years at St. Petersburg Junior College, where she was an honor student and editor of the school newspaper.
Jeanne lived in many places. After her marriage to Howard Quinn in 1946, they moved to Atlanta where she worked while he finished college at Georgia Tech with a degree in engineering. They moved to Waynesboro, Va., where Howard worked for DuPont Company and where all four of her children were born. From there, they lived in the Netherlands, Wilmington, Waynesboro for a second time, then Seaford, where all of her children graduated from high school. When her youngest child went to college, Jeanne returned to college and received her degree in Social Work from Salisbury (Maryland) State College. She then worked for the Delaware Head Start Program until her retirement in 1984, when she moved to Fort Myers.
Jeanne donated a year of her life to the Lutheran Volunteer Service as a missionary in Milwaukee, where she was responsible for a head start program. She also loved to travel, which she did with both family and friends. She had a lifelong love of learning and reading. She never complained, put others’ needs before her own, and always helped those less fortunate than herself. She was always kind, compassionate, considerate, generous, and gracious to others.
Jeanne was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and, since 1988, a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
A memorial service will be held at Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church, 1138 Gateway Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33913, on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to any non-profit education program.
