It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John E. Travers at this home in Las Vegas, NV, on Sept. 11, 2026. John was born on Dec. 14, 1962, in Seaford. His parents are William Travers, Jr. and Carol Wheatley Travers.

After high school, John joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the flight decks of two aircraft carriers, including the USS John F. Kennedy. After discharge, he decided he liked the warmer climates and traveled to different states, finally settling in Las Vegas, where he worked in the hotel industry, retiring from the Cosmopolitan in 2025 due to health issues. John was an excellent chef, taking pride in both flavor and presentation.

A lifelong bachelor, in his spare time Jon enjoyed reading, especially military history. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and would often call his mother during a game to chat about it.

Besides his parents, Jon is survived by his sister, Leigh Bennett; aunt and uncle, Frank and Billie Wheatley; niece, Jenna Harmon (Bryan); and nephew, Tony Murtagh (Ashley).

Jon was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nellie Coulbourne Dalious; his paternal grandparents, Bill and Elizabeth Travers; and nephew, Billy Porter.
