Virginia “Diane” Harrington of Laurel, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, surrounded by her family, friends and faithful pet companion, “Pebbles.”

Diane was a sweet and caring soul who brought warmth and comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She had a special way of making others feel loved and welcome.

She was employed for many years at the Methodist Manor House, where she served in a variety of positions, most recently as a housekeeper. Diane enjoyed spending time with her family, dining out, shopping and attending church. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed reading the Bible.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Fred B. “Junior” Smith Jr. and Ruth E. Meredith; her partner of 40 years, Raymond “Rip” Lloyd; and her siblings, Fred B. Smith III, Joyce A. Mears, Donna F. Ockels, Mike Smith, Steve Smith, Freda Miller, Scott Smith and Mark Smith.

She is survived by daughters, Sherry Hastings (Mark) of Bridgeville and Tanya Callaway of Laurel; her stepson, Chad Lloyd; her sister, Debbie Waldridge, of Seaford; her grandchildren, Kari Green (Brian) of Delmar, Michael Hastings (Stacey) of Bridgeville, Morgan Bragg (Braxton) of Stafford, Va. and Jadyn Dolby of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews, including nieces Lori Gesuero, who was always available with counsel regarding her health questions, and Lisa Mears and Shelly Lowe, whom Diane considered as “daughters.”

Funeral services will be held beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26 at Connection Church, Laurel. Sr. Pastor Barry Dukes will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation.

In celebration of Diane’s vibrant life, the family encourages those attending her services to wear bright colors rather than traditional black or other dark attire.
