The woman who never met a stranger, Carol Ann Rhodes Porter of Delmar, Del. passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1958, in Seaford and was raised in Laurel, where she graduated from Laurel High School in 1976.

She worked at Faw Casson in Salisbury for 39 years. She was a proud volunteer at the Delmar Little League and Parks and Recreation. She was happiest when she was with her grandchildren, at the beach or at a Shorebirds game. She was sometimes happy watching the Orioles.

Carol is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles Porter; her daughter, Stephanie (Robert); her son, Chad (Melissa); her grandchildren, Lauren, Justin, Marley, Cadyn and Callie; her mother, Catherine Rhodes and her sister, Janet Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Rhodes and grandparents, Milton and Elizabeth Pope and Wilson and Kathryn Rhodes.

Carol will be remembered for the kindness she bestowed upon everyone she knew.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, followed by a memorial service which begins at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul James will officiate.
