During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Delmar School District recognized student Erin Jeon, recipient of one of only 500 National Junior Honor Society awards given in the country. Middle School Student of the Month winners and two school board members were also recognized during the meeting.
Delmar teacher Mary Cass made the presentation to Jeon, the only Delaware recipient of the National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award. Jeon is a member of the school’s marching and concert band as well as the all-state junior band, Sussex County senior honors band, and the Salisbury Youth Orchestra.
A representative for Representative Tim Dukes and former board member Dawn Turner, Chair of the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee, paid tribute to outgoing school board members Farrah Morelli (15 years of service) and Dawn Litchford (four years of service) for their service to the Delmar community.
The board also saluted the following May Middle School Student of the Month winners: Grade 5- Jamey Mathieu; Grade 6- Esther Pierre Louis; Grade 7- Carson Teter; and Grade 8- Chloe King.
The board also approved the following items without discussion: DCP Cell phone policy, DCR curriculum review policy, the 2026-27 student and parent discipline matrix and handbook, and the 2026-27 handbook
Superintendent Mile Bleile reported that the memorandum of understanding- with Wor-Wic Community College has been approved, allowing Delmar, Maryland students at Delmar High School (located in Delaware) to take classes for a lower tuition.
Bleile also said the district will be working on a five-year strategic plan over the summer.
