The Delmar Wildcats defeated visiting Seaford, 12-1, in a shortened five-inning game played in Delmar last week. Leading the Wildcats from the circle were Macy Rickards and Aubrey Timmons, who combined for 12 strikeouts in the game.
Delmar scored in the bottom of the first inning when lead-off walks to Averi Naugle and Timmons set up a double by Cheyanne Willey for a 1-0 score. Later in the inning, Rickards’ single to center field scored two runs, and a triple to left field by Marleigh Wells upped the score to 5-0. Seaford’s catcher put the tag on Wells, who attempted to go home on a ground ball by Elle Preston. Delmar scored for a sixth run on a walk with the bases loaded before the third out came when runners left bases early.
In the bottom of the second inning, two Wildcats were hit by a pitch, and two walks added a run to the board for Delmar. The inning added three more runs on two singles by Addyson Pearson and Preston for the 10-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, with two outs and a single by Kennedy Harris, a run was scored.
The Blue Jays scored in the fourth inning when Mercedes Donovan connected for a double to center field, and then Shea Cooper hit a double to left field that scored the run for the Blue Jays. Delmar added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Seaford did not score in the fifth for the final 12-1 score.
Timmons and Preston each had two hits, and Cheyanne Willey, Macy Rickards, Marleigh Wells, and Kennedy Harris each added one hit. Brianna Brady, Donovan, and Cooper each had a hit for Seaford.
