The Seaford varsity girls’ volleyball team concluded the season with a win over Laurel in three sets, 25-19, 25-11, 25-17 last Tuesday. The win gives Seaford a record of 5-10, its best record since the inception of the program in 2013.

Shown (l to r) are the 2025 Seaford girls’ volleyball team’s seniors Jennie Janvier, Andrea Altenor, Kiley Reyes, Brianna Dorey, Shea Cooper, and Jenna Romer.

The Seaford girls were led by senior Shea Cooper with 10 aces and Andrea Altenor with five aces and five kills.

In the first set, Seaford took a 10-6 lead but Laurel’s Kim Hinkle and Destinie McCrea played their team back to a tie at 12-12. Seaford spread the lead with a dink, an attack, and two aces by Cooper. The Blue Jays closed out the second set with Altenor with the help of Brianna Dorey’s shot, a set and strike between Cooper and Dorey, and the final point win when the ball landed in deep back court.

The second set opened with Seaford collecting the first six point lead with attack blocks and a kill. McCrea won on a hard block and later a dink found the open floor. Seaford added to score while Laurel struggled on bumps, sets, and returns giving the Blue Jays a 25-11 win.

In the final set, the teams swapped service until Altenor lifted Seaford to a five point lead with two aces and strong serves that Laurel did not return. Senior Kiley Reyes added to the lead with her two aces and Cooper with four for a 22-9 lead. The Bulldogs played back into the set with Taylor Hinkle leading the team from the service line and after a missed kill and ace by Kendra LeCates the score was 24-17. Laurel lost the final point of the match on a violation and Seaford took the win 25-17.

The Blue Jays also celebrated seniors Dorey, Altenor, Kiley Reyes, Jenna Romer, Jennie Janvier, and Cooper. The students packed the gym to cheer on their Blue Jays and after the match Jenna Romer said, “I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of this team this year. I wish I had more time, but we don’t. So just enjoy everything of what you are experiencing for the rest of your life.”

Cooper spoke on the team’s improvements this year, “It’s really incredible to see how far we’ve come in just a few months this season. Looking at this team beginning our freshman year, we are a totally different team.” Cooper said they support each other, “We celebrate everybody’s progress as a player as well as the person they are today. I think the Seaford program really does a great job in not only making you a better player, but a better person.”

Dorey said, “I just don’t take anything for granted. This is special and the way that everyone has grown together, not just teammates, but friends, is something that I’ll never forget, and I’m forever grateful.”

Both Altenor and Reyes spoke on the power of staying together as teammates, closing down the outside noise, and being focused.”
