Adult use retail marijuana business license fee approved by Council
The Seaford Council and Mayor Matt MacCoy congratulated the 2024 holiday decorating contest winners. This year’s winners are: third place- David and Michelle Hudson of North Willey Street, second place- Scott and Kay Bleile of Lantana Drive, and first place- Vonda Calhoun of Pennsylvania Avenue. In addition to the monetary awards, each winner will receive a sign for their lawn to recognize that they won in the Seaford Christmas decorating contest.
“One of the highlights of the holiday season for not only myself but for council, we get an opportunity to go around the city and view some of the houses. It is an honor to see how much effort and time people put into their homes,” said MacCoy. “Every year this house (Alana Carver) goes above and beyond and this year I want to give out a community spirit award.”
In other business, the council approved the request by Gary and Annette Cannon, owners of property located on Lincoln Street, to subdivide the land into two lots. The lots are located at the corner of Grant and Lincoln Streets; lot one is 5,277 square feet and lot two is 5,166 square feet and are R-2 zone.
In new business, Trisha Newcomer, director of economic development, presented a proposed structural revision to the meeting minutes which will reduce the minutes being written verbatim. A new software system is capable of documenting minutes but does not allow internal correction and updates. The council meetings are also digitally recorded and live streamed through the city website for anyone that wants to join and watch. Newcomer informed council the update is a recommendation of the city solicitor. The new system will continue to utilize employees and will follow the agenda of the meeting with further details available by watching live stream or audio. The motion passed for structure revision to begin Jan. 1.
The council reviewed the suggested revisions to the adult use retail marijuana business license fee and application. In the ordinance it adds the $1,000 annual license fee which is not prorated and runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 each year. The licensing requirements become effective Feb. 1. The motion was passed unanimously.
