The Sussex Tech varsity wrestling team defeated Seaford by a score of 71-12 in the season opener held on the Raven mats last week.

Sussex Tech gained the opening six points forfeiture and went on to score 66 points on 11 pins. Sussex Tech’s Parker Hampton and Don Lemay of Seaford worked the mat in the first period with Hampton scoring on a takedown and two nearfalls for a 7-0 lead. Lemay fought off the takedown attempts in the second period until Hampton made a move that pinned Lemay at 3:45 for the win. In the 120 pound weight class Drake Rogers defeated Julian Lopez by technical fall, scoring 15 points in the first period. Rogers took Adkins to the mat for three four point nearfall scores.

In the 126 pound weight class, the Ravens’ Anthony Andrews won by pin in the first period and in the 132 pound weight class sophomore Logan King led 10-1 and then defeated Roginaldo Lemay at 3:01 in the second period. Sussex Tech collected two pins from Noah Figgs and Cullen Nichols for the 41-0 lead. In the 150 pound weight class Terrensky Alexis scored for the Blue Jays when he pinned Jayden Justice in the first period. 

The Ravens went on to win the next four matches beginning with reigning state champion and all-conference senior wrestler Dustin Elliott with a pin in the first period of the 157 pound weight class. In the 165 pound weight class junior Bennett Brumbley defeated Doubensly Saint Jean and in the 175 pound weight class junior Kayden Bennett pinned Rodrigo Morales Tovar for the 65-6 score. Seaford’s Kayden Andrews won his 215 weight match with a pin over Sussex Tech’s Ethan Horner. The Ravens scored in the final match with a pin win in the third period for Malachi Miller. 

The Ravens’ schedule includes the Polytech Invitational and road match against rival Cape Henlopen.
