Barbara Massey of Seaford passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in 1936, in Hog Swamp, Del. (Marshallton) she was the eldest child of the late Elwood and Mary (Hyde) McLane. She graduated from A.I. DuPont High School, Wilmington and then graduated from Wilmington General Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington. While in nursing school, she was introduced to Floyd Massey by a classmate, his cousin Joyce. They were married in September 1957 and enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Barbara put her career as a nurse on hold to raise their three children, returning to hospital work as a shift supervisor at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

Barbara enjoyed reading, tending her garden and crafting scrapbooks. Barbara loved spending time doing needlework and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Floyd Massey; her children John Dale (Karen), Joanna (Trey), and David (Heather); her grandchildren Tyler (Natasha), Chris Davis (Erica), Mary, and Aaron (Lindsey); and her great-grandchildren Elijah and Cullen. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Anne McLane, and Beverly McLane Barker (Harold), as well as sisters-in-law Juanita, Lydia and Barbara.

Barbara was predeceased by her brothers Mickey, Donald, Tommy and Gerald.

A funeral service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at Watson-Yates Funeral Home and Crematorium, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, 609 E. King Street, Seaford, DE 19973, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 513 3rd Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
