Floyd Allen Massey of Seaford passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford. Floyd was born in Galestown in 1927, the son of the late Mary Agnes (Massey) and Clarence Kinnikin.
Floyd graduated from Hurlock Public School, where he grew up working on the family farm. He then was employed by the DuPont Seaford Nylon plant. His early DuPont career was interrupted when he served in the Army, in Germany, with the quartermaster corps, leaving the military as a Corporal. He returned to DuPont and worked there for 40 years in the Power Service Maintenance group.
Floyd was introduced to Barbara McLane, then a nursing student in Wilmington, by his cousin Joyce, her classmate. They were married and just celebrated 67 years of marriage in September.
Floyd was an avid NASCAR fan; Jeff Gordon was his favorite. He also enjoyed watching baseball on TV, especially the Orioles, Phillies and Braves. Floyd was a fan of Gunsmoke and other westerns. Creating with wood and decorating the pieces with Barbara was also a favorite.
Floyd is survived by his children: John Dale (Karen), Joanna (Trey), and David (Heather); his grandchildren: Tyler (Natasha), Chris Davis (Erica), Mary, and Aaron (Lindsey); his great-grandchildren: Elijah and Cullen; and his sister Dortha.
Floyd was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara, and his sister Lida.
A funeral service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at Watson-Yates Funeral Home and Crematorium, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, 609 E. King Street, Seaford, DE 19973, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 513 3rd Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
