The top seeded Woodbridge Raiders 11U American Youth Football team won the Delmarva AYF Conference championship on Sunday, Nov. 10, by defeating the number two seeded Dreim Elite of Bear, 27-0. The game was played at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes.

On their first possession, Woodbridge running back Jamari Deputy broke several attempted tackles and sprinted 20 yards to the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Running back Vic Hammond ran for the extra point, making the score 7-0. In the conference, a touchdown is worth six points, a kick attempt after a touchdown is worth two points, and a pass or run after a touchdown is worth one point.

Later in the first quarter, defensive lineman “AJ” White recovered a fumble and raced 50 yards for the game’s second touchdown. Hammond added a second extra point, making the score 14-0, which remained at half-time.

In the third quarter, Deputy took a hand-off from quarterback Carter Neal, and scored his second touchdown of the game from two yards away. Deputy finished the game with 120 yards rushing. Neal scored the extra point, making the score 21-0. Late in the fourth quarter, Hammond ran 30 yards to score the Raider’s final touchdown of the game with 20 seconds remaining. The game was ended at that point because of the running clock policy. Hammond finished the contest with seven tackles and an interception on defense.

Second year head coach “TJ” Neal praised his team for their  win, especially the defense. “We played a great game today and came away with the championship. Our defense was exceptional and stayed focused the whole time. This year we faced some adversity, but we came together. I am proud of them. We’re not done, its on to Florida for the national championship that we want to bring back to Bridgeville.”
