Lillian “Lil” Smart Carmean, Blades, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2024. Born in Georgia as the youngest of 15 children to John and Lillian Smith, she brought a unique blend of Southern charm and unwavering strength to her life.

Lil was a devoted mother to Deborah Hall (Ray), Brice Jr. (deceased), Gregory Smart, and Scott Smart (Dawn), a cherished grandmother to eight, and a doting great-grandmother to eight more. She was also affectionately known as Aunt Lil to many nieces, nephews and friends, including those at the Dairy Bar where she spent many hours each week. Her family was her world, and she instilled in them her fierce loyalty, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Lil cheered for the Baltimore Orioles and Dallas Cowboys but found her greatest joy in watching her loved ones compete in various sports. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a longtime member of the Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel.

Lil’s career spanned various roles, including positions at Woolworths, Golden Corral, Bus Driver, and a fulfilling career at DuPont in Seaford, from which she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, first husband Brice Smart, Sr., second husband James Carmean, son Brice Smart, Jr., and grandson Tyler Cobe Smart.

A visitation was held at Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, followed by a funeral service. Burial took place at Blades Cemetery.
