CHEER’s “Wheels for Meals” car show rolls into Georgetown on Saturday, Aug. 3 and cooks up an abundance of proceeds to help provide meals for Sussex County’s senior citizens. The non-profit agency’s 14th annual car-truck-bike show displays in the parking lot of CHEER’s Warren L. and Charles C. Allen, Jr. Community Center, east of Georgetown. Outside exhibitors and visitors will be entertained with the upbeat music of DJ Sky Brady. Inside the community center, a delicious buffet champagne brunch will be served. It is open to the public from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for $30 at the door.
CHEER Chief Executive Officer Beckett Wheatley is anxious for this year’s show. “This is the biggest fundraiser CHEER has all year. We appreciate the support the car enthusiasts have given CHEER throughout the years and invite them to join us again in 2024,” she said.
Proceeds from the car show help provide services for senior citizens in Sussex County through its Nutrition program. $63 is needed to provide one week of healthy meals to a homebound senior; $120 provides one week of housekeeping services for a senior; and $40 provides one week of transportation for a senior. The total cost to help support a senior in their own home with adequate nutrition, clean living environment, and weekly connection to their community is $223.
Entrants in this year’s show will be judged by a panel of professional judges. Receiving crystal trophies for their wins will be for Best in Show, Fred Wittmer Memorial Trophy, Sussex County Best in Show sponsored by Sussex County Council, Best Car, Best Truck, Best Bike, Best Import, and Best Emergency Vehicle in recognition to all First Responders who help protect our communities.
