James V. Burket of Seaford passed away on May 8 at Country Rest Home in Greenwood. He was surrounded by his son Jeff and wife Fay along with other friends. We’d like to sincerely thank Country Rest Home for loving Dad as much as we did.
Jim Burket was born in Altoona, Pa. and later moved to Port Norfolk, Va. This area was known for its beautiful waterfront and drew Dad into love being on or near the water which lasted a lifetime. He met his stunning first wife Barbara Holland in high school. Dad continued his education on to Virginia Polytechnical which is now known as Virginia Tech. He graduated with honors and was hired straight out of college by DuPont, which brought us to Seaford.
He was a huge fan of music and it showed in his lifetime. He was First Chair Saxophone All State from junior high through high school. This led to his being in a traveling Jazz Band on weekends, the choir director for Grace Baptist Church, President of Community Concerts, and many other musical events in Seaford.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Margeret Burket, wife Barbara and brother Richard Burket. He is survived by his two children Amy Wagner (Mike) of King William, Va., and his son Jeff of Seaford; and his current wife Fay Burket, her children Jeff Wheatley of Bridgeville, Valerie Gilbert (Mike) of Lewes and their children and grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews and friends that are like family.
The service will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grace Church on Atlanta Rd., Seaford. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford and a reception following back at the church.
