Floyd Franklin Messick of Bridgeville, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 29, 1931 at home, he was the son of the late Linwood William Messick and Cecil Catherine Eskridge.
Floyd loved everything about poultry. Known by most as “Pop”, he was the “go to” man for chickens. He retired from Allen’s Hatchery after many years with the company. Floyd loved going to yard sales, flea markets and auctions and enjoyed being accompanied by the loves of this life, his wife Ruth and his daughter Sheila.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth Charles Messick. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Ellen; his daughter Sheila Robin Culver (Jake); grandsons, Dustin Messick, Jeremy Culver (Amber), Joshua Culver (Allison); great-grandchildren, Bryant Whittington, Tyler Vaughn, Mikhail Messick, Lucinda Messick, Cheyenne Culver, Ariyah Culver, Hailey Culver, Riley Culver and many other family members who loved him very much.
A visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Inc., 700 West Street, Laurel, DE 19956. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Joe LeCates will officiate. Interment will be held at Bloomery Cemetery.
