Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County celebrated 37 years of volunteers building strength, stability, and self-reliance in the Wicomico County community on Thursday, April 18. 

Over 40 volunteers attended the luncheon; some serving up to 400 hours in the past year. Dr Alexander Pope, co-director of PACE and associate professor of Salisbury University, opened the luncheon with inspiring words on volunteerism. 

Several individuals and businesses were awarded for their commitment to the organization, including: Steve Bullock and Tammy Banachowski, Volunteers of the Year; Oliver Waters, board president of HFHWC, Board Member Volunteer of the Year; Ted Marcus, ReStore Volunteer of the Year; and PAC 14, Volunteer Organization of the Year. 

State of Maryland Governor’s Volunteer Service Certificates were presented to 18 volunteers. The recipients were: Justin Albert, Tammy Banachowski, Tara Blaine, Steve Bullock, Nancy Chernoff, John Duke, Albert Flagg, Janae Fontaine, Noah Halt, Ted Marcus, Ana Maria Lema Olivares, Bing Martier, Gary Martin, Letanya Matthews, Angel Rivera, Jose Ruiz-Romero, Oliver Waters, and Steve Wheatley.
