All are cordially invited to St. Philip’s monthly “Movie Wednesday” on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Parish House (located through the glass doors off S. Central Ave.) St. Philip’s is located at 600 S. Central Ave, in Laurel.

This month, the group will be viewing the movie entitled “Origin,” produced in 2023. In this powerful and somewhat controversial film, journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson (portrayed by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) suffers a personal tragedy and embarks on a global investigative journey. As she researches her book, she traces a hidden social system of hierarchy, superiority and exclusion across three societies — the United States, India, and Nazi Germany. Drawing parallels between Jim Crow segregation, the Indian caste system, and the Holocaust, Wilkerson develops a new lens through which to view race and power. Interwoven with her own story of grief and determination, the film argues that caste is a structural force beneath race — shaping societies and individuals alike.  Free refreshments will be provided during the movie.
