Samuel Albert Tyndall Sr. passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 68 years, Lynn, by his side on Jan. 2, 2026. Born March 4, 1938, Sam was a lifelong entrepreneur, community leader, and devoted family man. Despite childhood polio, his determination and work ethic shaped a life of service and success. He owned and operated several businesses, including Tastee Freeze locations in Laurel and founded Tyndall’s Pipe and Patio, which grew into a respected Mid-Atlantic family business.

Sam proudly served in the National Guard and was deeply involved in his community. His service included leadership roles with the Laurel School Board, Broad Creek Grange, Jaycees, Ducks Unlimited, State Game and Fish Committee, and the Academy Review Board. After moving to Clermont, Fla., he served as President of the Wellington community in Kings Ridge for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, card games, and following his grandchildren’s activities. Above all, Sam cherished his family and his marriage to Lynn, his business partner and best friend. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Workman; his sister, Virginia Jefferson; and his brother, Lee Tyndall. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his son, Samuel Tyndall, Jr. (Kim); grandchildren, John Gordy (Marissa), Samantha Lougheed (Kevin), Shelby Lester (Kenny), Trey Tyndall (Bethany), and Sydney Tyndall (Austin); six great-grandchildren; his sister, Sue Phillips; and several extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sam’s life in Laurel on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Central Worship Center. A visitation will begin at noon with a service following at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in Sam’s honor to the American Heart Association.
