All Lower Eastern Shore high school students going into the 11th and 12th grades this fall are encouraged to watch the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce – Education Committee Network’s PAC-14 / YouTube TV Show entitled “Education is Everybody’s Business.”
This latest episode features a comprehensive look at “Educational Support – College and Career Scholarships offered by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.”
Host Dr. Ladd Colston interviews Cathy Diekmann, program officer of scholarships for the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) who provides a full overview of: (1) HOW much money is distributed through the CFES each year, (2) WHY all students need to determine the scholarships which they qualify for, (3) WHAT is required for each scholarship application, (4 )WHEN they need to have all application materials submitted, and (5) WHERE each application has to be submitted. Students who pay attention to these details are often selected to receive financial scholarship support and can pursue their career dreams through college or trade school education.
Many of local high school students do not know that the CFES distributes over 220 scholarships a year ranging in financial awards from $500 up to $5,000 per year which can be used for tuition, fees, room and board, books and educational supplies such as a computer or lab equipment. Some of these scholarships are earmarked for specific high school graduates (i.e., Wicomico H.S., Snow Hill H.S.), specific trades (i.e., healthcare, teaching), and selected college or trade school (i.e., West Virginia University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore). Some scholarships are even earmarked for sports (i.e., wrestling, golf). It should be noted that this episode is targeted not only to high school students but also parents, guardians, mentors, and any interested scholarship fund donors. The mission of the CFES is to “connect people who care to causes that matter.”
