They say good things are worth waiting for, western Sussex residents have been waiting for awhile for Britt’s Dutch Inn to reopen after fire caused the restaurant to close and rebuild. Last week Britt’s held a soft opening before officially opening for business over the weekend.
“Nothing worth doing comes easy,” said Britt’s General Manager Nikki Carranza, referring to the ups and downs of the reopening process. “We didn’t want to rush and not provide quality service.”

At the same time, the restaurant, led by its new general manager and staff, wanted to open amid much public anticipation for the reopening. Britt’s Dutch Inn will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
While one of the previous owners stayed on and is now sole owner, the staff is new. “We started a new family,” Carranza said. “This is their (staff) community. They used to eat at Britt’s as children. They’re excited to get Britt’s open for the community.”
The owner kept the name of the restaurant and is embracing its, and the town’s, history. The Laurel Historical Society provided historic pictures which will be hung on the restaurant’s walls.
“We wanted to bring back the original ties to the community,” said Carranza.
The food will be simple food with a menu that provides something for everyone, “from Seafood Alfredo to pancakes and scrapple and something for everybody in between,” Carranza said. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with breakfast served all day on most days and it will have a full salad bar.
Britt’s grand opening will take place in the next week or two.
