A Blue Christmas service will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 26146 Asbury Rd., Seaford on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. for those struggling with a loss of a loved one, experiencing health issues, or any other losses during the holiday time. Grief is the price we pay because we love and share lives with others.
Losses are difficult any day, but more difficult for many during the festive holidays. For those grieving, not every day will be merry and bright. While some feel the first holiday after a loss is the worst, others feel the holidays without a loved one are difficult each year. An empty chair, a present not purchased, a laugh you will not hear during the holiday will be reminders of loss. Those struggling need to know it is okay to not be okay.
Pastor David Fontanez will lead the candlelight service of hope and assurance. The service will give assurance from the scripture that God is with those who grieve. Survivors will be given suggestions on self-care and resources for follow up assistance. Friends and family members of the Asbury/Blades Charge and Portsville will be remembered during the service. Light refreshments and a time to talk will follow the services. Resource information will be available for participants.
