The Laurel School District’s current operating expense referendum, which took place on Monday, failed with 612 voting for it and 1,113 voting against it (unofficial results). If approved, it would have increased the tax rate by $0.0742 per $100 of assessed value for a total of $1,632,032.
“Tonight, the vote did not go the way we had hoped. But we sincerely thank everyone who listened, engaged respectfully, asked questions, and participated in this important decision for our students, staff, and schools,” a district representative wrote on its Facebook page. “We will take time to review, reflect, and learn from the feedback we received, and we remain committed to doing what’s best for our students and community moving forward.”
