Preston J. Vickers of Laurel passed peacefully in his home on April 2, 2020 with his loving wife by his side.
Preston was born April 15, 1928 to the late Abisha Vickers and Della Franklin Vickers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Alice Brittingham and Viola Fleming, as well as his son Steven Vickers.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Vickers, a daughter Yvonne Mercer (Dave), stepdaughters Kelli Lewis (Steve), Karen Joines (Michael Edgerton) and Kim George. Grandchildren Rick Martin, Cody Martin, Steven Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Jordan Lewis, Kiana Lewis, Travis Cerillo and Grayson George, as well as seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife Eunice Vickers.
Preston served in the Army National Guard. He worked at the E.I. DuPont plant in Seaford for 40 years, retiring in 1990. His favorite pastimes were woodworking and lawn maintenance. He could be found outdoors on most nice days working on his yard. He never missed a televised boxing match and could recite the lines to most of the Classic Westerns. He adored his boxer pup, Penny, and spent many years with her by his side.
A private family service will be held. Interment will follow at Blades Cemetery.
