If you’re looking for an experienced roofer for new construction, re-roofing or repairs, Bob Grant at Grant & Sons Roofing and Siding in Milford is your man.

Grant learned how to roof from his father, Robert Grant, who founded the company in 1969 when Bob was just a preschooler and his twin brothers hadn’t been born yet. His father didn’t let that fact, nor an ocean, keep him from achieving his dream.

Grant and Sons Roofing’s Bob Grant and his employees are pictured with the Equiptor.

Robert Grant grew up in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. Born in 1938, by the time he was old enough to seek jobs, there weren’t any. After serving in the British Army in Kenya from 1958 to 1960, he and his wife decided to bring their young daughter to America. They first settled in Connecticut, then New Jersey, but the search for a more secure, stable atmosphere led them to southern Delaware. The business, which moved to the Milford-Harrington area, was soon much in demand.

Young Grant started working on the roof at a very early age and was working full-time for his father as a teenager. All of his siblings, including a younger sister, worked for the business in some shape or form, but the others took different paths in life. Bob took over the business in 2007.

Now all of Grant’s children are involved in the business. Robert Alan Grant Jr., or Bobby, is a school teacher and spends his summers working for his dad on the roof. Nick works full-time on the roof and part-time as a real estate agent. Shelby is starting her senior year at Goldey-Beacom College where she is pursuing a degree in business. She works in the office and has taken over all of Grant & Sons’ social media platforms.

Mary, Grant’s wife, has worked as a nurse for the last 29 years, but since January 2020 she has assumed the full-time position of office manager at Grant & Sons. There are about 10 employees.

Grant & Sons’ roofing services include repairs, replacement, re-roofs, rubber roofing, metal roofing and, of course, asphalt shingle roofing. But their work is not limited to roofing. The company also repairs and installs siding, soffit and fashia metal; replaces windows and doors; repairs roof venting and installs boots (rubber vent pipe covers that help seal the section of roof around the pipe). Gutter guards are also available to prevent leaves and debris from clogging your gutters.

“Our reputation in our community is second to none,” Grant said. “We take pride in our workmanship and strive to maintain the high standards of service this business was built upon.”

Using new technologies and quality materials, Grant & Sons strives to provide the best product and service to its customers. The company offers free estimates at the client’s home where Grant himself inspects and measures the roof. He leaves a proposal with the client the same day.

You can get a quick view of what a new roof will look like on your home by using home design software on the company website and a digital photo of the house. The auto-recognition technology uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify the roof, siding, windows, doors and other areas of the home and allows you to compare the look of different products and colors almost instantly.

To protect your property and make clean-up a breeze, Grant & Sons uses mobile dump trucks called Equiptors to catch debris. One client commented he walked around after the job was done and all he could find was two screws.

A family-owned and operated business, Grant & Sons Roofing and Siding serves all of Kent and Sussex counties. Grant & Sons’ friendly staff is available in the showroom at 606 Milford Harrington Highway in Milford to help show you all the possibilities for your next exterior project.
