Mrs. Susan (Griffith) Franckowiak, a resident of Seaford, left us unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2021. She was born on Aug. 16, 1948 in Chester, PA to the late Mary G. (Schum) and the late Clifford S. Griffith.

Susan graduated from Interboro Senior High School with the class of 1966 then studied at Temple University.

Susan Griffith became Mrs. Susan Franckowiak when she wed the late Robert F. Franckowiak on June 25, 1976 becoming beloved (step)mother to Trisha and Troy Franckowiak.

Susan and Bob Franckowiak moved to Seaford in 1983 where Susan served as Executive Director at Nanticoke Senior Center from Oct. 1989-Nov. 2010, a job she cherished because of the people she encountered daily. She was also an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Seaford up until her untimely passing.

As a young child Susan contracted polio shortly after receiving the vaccine. With the passage of time she was growing weaker but her spirit, faith and kindness grew stronger. Susan was loved by so many especially by her many German Shepherds over the years. She left behind Ricky and the late Rebecca when she passed. It’s believed that Rebecca passed from a broken heart two weeks after her human mother left us.

Susan, as a young woman, stepped in as a full time mother to Troy Franckowiak, a rambunctious teenager, and loved him as her own. She wasn’t just a great mother to Troy and Trisha but a great mentor and friend.

Susan loved talking to people and learning about them. Her kindness was contagious. She was devout to her family, friends, shepherds, politics and faith. She will be greatly missed.

Susan is survived by her stepchildren Trisha and Troy Franckowiak, her step grandchildren Angelina Roffo, Jesse, Michael and Alexander Franckowiak, her beloved godchildren/niece and nephew Emily and David Sanders; her brother-in-law John Sanders and her sweet German Shepherd, Ricky.

In addition to her parents, Susan was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Robert of 42 years, her precious sister Linda Sanders from Chambersburg Pa., and young brother, Clifford Griffith.

A service will be held on Monday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes at 528 E. Stein Hwy. in Seaford, followed by a cemetery service followed by a luncheon for family and friends at The Golden Eagle Diner, located at 23412 Sussex Hwy, in Seaford.
