Levin Lane Layfield of Delmar went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021. Levin was born on March 10, 1943.

He is survived by the love of his life, Sylvia Layfield. They just celebrated 60 years of marriage in July 2020. He is survived by his children: his oldest daughter, Patty Truitt; his son, Bruce Layfield; and his youngest daughter, Cindy Knight and Ronnie; grandchildren, Angela Powers and Ryan, Dylan Layfield, Dalton Layfield and Cricket, Ronnie Knight and Kate, Andrew Knight, Brady Knight and Taylor, and Mia Knight; his siblings Richard Hearn and Trudy, Gary Hearn and Kay, Tommy Hearn, Sandy Whitelock and Roger; his brother-in-law, Raymond LaManque and sister-in-law, Debbie Justice and Mark. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and others that considered him like a Pop-Pop.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ethel Layfield; his parents Bill and Norma Jean Hearn; his brothers, Kenny and Jimmy Hearn; and his son-in-law, Nathan Bunky Truitt.

He worked for many years as a mechanic, farmer, logger, and truck driver. He retired from Otis Stevenson Inc. under Stevie Stevenson in 2011. He was known to many as “Big L.” Levin always had a love for gardening, his cats, and his truck and John Deere collection. Levin was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Salisbury.

A graveside service was held on Monday, Jan. 11 at Melson’s Cemetery on Melson Road, Delmar, Md. Pastor Joel Beiler officiated.
