Heritage Shores offers an array of amenities for residents, public

By Carol Kinsley

At Heritage Shores in Bridgeville, you can dine at one of three restaurants, play on a championship golf course or celebrate a special occasion in the newly renovated clubhouse or ballroom — all without being a resident of the premier active adult community in western Sussex County or member of any special club.

Some of the amenities of the Heritage Shore community are reserved for residents only, including the wellness center, indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts. There are also classes, crafts and social events reserved for residents.

Golf, dining and shopping, however, are open to the public seven days a week.

Heritage Shores features an 18-hole golf course designed by Arthur Hills, one of the nation’s leading golf course architects. Stretching 7,005 yards, the course has strategically incorporated bunkers, undulating fairways and water flanking many of the holes. Voted one of Delaware’s top course in 2018 by Golf Advisor, this par 72 Southern Delaware golf course will challenge and test each player’s abilities. Golfers are offered a selection of five tees, providing a unique experience with every round.

The course is available for hosting corporate and charity golf outings and tournaments. Whether hosting a team building event, entertaining clients or hosting a competition among friends, the experienced Event and Golf team at Heritage Shores will provide attentive service and detailed planning to ensure that your tournament or event is successful and fun, from registration to awards dinners.

Heritage Shores can customize tournaments to accommodate any needs from personalized signage and scorecards, to scoring receptions and coordinating on-course contests.

Each tournament package includes 9 or 18 holes of championship golf, golf carts and complimentary range balls. For more information, contact Brooks Massey, PGA Director of Golf, at 302-337-7474, email: golf@heritageshores.com, or submit a form via www.heritageshores.com/tournaments.

After a day of golf, you may be hungry. Order from the “At the Turn Menu” and The Sugar Beet Market will have your order ready to go when you’ve finished your game. The Sugar Beet offers a wide variety of grilled items, bar snacks and shareables Thursday through Monday.

If you have time to relax after a game, you can order from the menu shared by Passwaters Restaurant and the 1730 Tavern. The menu of traditional American and European cuisine is changed often to incorporate the freshest locally sourced ingredients which are prepared in unique and elegant ways by the chef and his staff.

Bring your scorecard to the Tavern for discounted domestic and craft draft beers. Even non-golfers can enjoy weekly specials, celebrity bartending events and the Mug Club.

The Sugar Beet Market, located at 201 Waterside Drive across from Heritage Shores’ model homes and lake lawn, offers crafted shareables and grill menu items. Catch a game on the big screen televisions, or dine waterside and watch the sun set over the Boardwalk. You can quench your thirst with a full bar selection of cocktails, draft and bottled beers and wines.

Need a cold treat on a warm summer day? The Sugar Beet also offers refreshing frozen treats — super premium ice cream, “nice cream” or sorbet — made locally by Frozen Farmer from local ingredients.

Also located within Sugar Beet Market is the Signature Shop carrying all your sporting apparel and equipment needs as well as all the big names in clothing, sunglasses, specialty items and gifts.

The Golf Shop at Heritage Shores offers equipment from all of the major manufacturers and competitive prices, with the added benefit of custom orders made to your exact specifications. Whether it’s a new set of clubs or a sleeve of golf balls, golfers will find an extensive inventory on-hand, but the shop will happily special-order items at a guest’s request. Not sure what to buy? Gift cards can be used towards any purchase in the Golf Shop, Signature Shop, Sugar Beet Market or Clubhouse. The Golf Shop is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting.

You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy the delights of the Heritage Shores community. Dine in casual elegance at Passwaters Restaurant, the perfect setting for a quiet dinner out with friends or family or for entertaining guests. Dinner can be served on the veranda, weather permitting.

Wine Night is held the first Thursday of each month at Passwaters; Brew Night, with craft beer and soft pretzels, is held the third Thursday of each month. Plan now — and make a reservation — for a “Night in Italy” on July 25 or Oct. 24. Or, enjoy Prime Rib Night on the first Saturday of the month.

If you are planning a special luncheon or dinner party, you are invited to contact the staff to reserve the perfect setting and a customized menu, if desired. For parties of nine or less, call 302-337-9927 for reservations. For parties of 10 or more wishing to dine together or plan an event, call 302-337-9910 Ext. 316.

For hosting special occasions from a wedding reception to corporate event or banquet, the sprawling 28,000-square-foot Clubhouse offers an elegant venue. Whether you want the Executive Suite for eight, the entire Passwaters Restaurant for 80 to 100 guests (depending on service), or the Ballroom which can accommodate 450 guests for a meal or 625 with theater seating, email Events@HeritageShores.com. Experienced event coordinators will take care of every detail, from event planning to flawless execution of your event.
