Geraldine Elizabeth Parsons of Delmar passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021 at her home in Harrington, where she had lived since May of 2020.

She was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on October 22, 1949, a daughter of the late Clarence Miller and Marian Miller Getkin.

Geraldine was raised in Delmar where she attended Delmar schools growing up. She married the love of her life, Roland J. Parsons on February 23, 1967 and together they raised a family of three children. For many years they were members of Delmar Wesleyan Church. She treasured her family and was a wonderful homemaker and cook. While her kids were school aged, her love for children led her to open a daycare and she cherished the role of being a daycare mother to many.

The next chapter of her life began as she and Roland opened Parsons One Stop in Gumboro. Later in life she still had the desire to help care for people, so she completed her CNA training and truly enjoyed helping the elderly at LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford. She was an excellent cook and baker and her family and friends will always remember her chicken and dumplings, beef and dumplings and peanut butter balls. She also loved crafts and sometimes made handmade Christmas gifts for her family to treasure, loved to crochet and made baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Theresa Parsons of Raleigh, NC, Candy Dennis and husband PJ of Salisbury and Roland James Parsons II and wife Carey of Laurel; grandchildren, Andrew J. Parsons, Dylan M. Shupe, Cody P. Shupe, Emily N. Dennis, Taylor M. Dennis, Jessica A. Dennis, Patrick A. Dennis, Roland J. Parsons, III, Colin R. Parsons, Nicholas R. Parsons, Lilly M. Parsons, Thomas J. Taylor, III and Ella J. Taylor; great-grandchildren, Elijah J. Parsons, Charleigh G. Shupe and Brantley J. Parsons; brothers, Carlton Miller and Olivier Dunrea; and a sister, Joyce Elswick. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland J. Parsons, who passed in 1999; a son, John Andrew Parsons, and a sister, Doris Ann Miller.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Lecates Family Cemetery in Delmar.
