The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Organization, Sussex County, Inc. invites you to participate in the 34th annual Commemorative Weekend Celebration in honor of the late civil rights leader, Jan. 15-17.

Please join us for our annual tradition of conducting a Monday Holiday Community Worship Service, beginning at 10 a.m.  The messenger this year will be the Rev. Ron Houston, Associate Pastor, St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Millsboro. The worship leader will be Bro. Frederick Duffy, Mt. Zion AME Church, Milford.

Our theme this year, “The Conscience of a Society: Safe, Political, Popular or RIGHT?” reminds us that Dr. King always spoke in service of the truth, even in the face of strong opposition. He famously said:  “The day we see the truth and cease to speak is the day we begin to die.”

Once again this year, the service will be held via Zoom. All are encouraged to attend. You may join the service by going to the Zoom link https://us06web.zoom.us/j/84282176356 on your computer, phone or tablet or you can telephone into the service at 301-715-8692. The webinar ID is 842 8217 6356.

The worship service is being co-sponsored by the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice. The Zoom link will also be on the website at SDARJ.org.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided that we will not hold either our traditional parade or annual banquet. Throughout the weekend, we encourage you to participate in the various Day of Service events being sponsored by local organizations. On Sunday, Jan. 16, we encourage everyone to worship at a location of your choice.

Your support is always needed and appreciated in perpetuating and nurturing the legacy, the vision and the dream of Dr. King.  Donations to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Organization may be made to P.O Box 781, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Contributions will help fund scholarships for deserving youth in Sussex County and the on-going work of the organization.
