Dorothy Waller Banks of Laurel passed away on May 9, 2022 at TidalHealth PRMC in Salisbury. Born in Laurel, she was the daughter of the late Gertha M. Waller and Carrie E. Waller. Dorothy graduated from Laurel High School in the class of 1950, and after graduation she enrolled in Goldey College and graduated from Goldey in 1951. She married the love of her life, Richard Banks, May 5, 1951, and they were married 53 years until his passing in 2004. 

She worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Norfolk, Virginia, Fowler and Williams Insurance Co. in Laurel, Tease, Faulkner and Dunlap Attorneys at Law in Georgetown, and lastly retiring from WSFS Mortgage Department as a supervisor. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a charter member of Laurel Alumni Association, Martha Rebekah Lodge, the Laurel Senior Center and WPS (widowed persons) of Seaford. Dorothy is survived by her children, Richard Gary Banks and his wife Dawn, and Christie Banks; grandchildren, Carrie Banks Calloway (Duane), David R. Banks, Elicia Banks-Gabriel, Nicole Shirey, and Sky Shirey; great-grandchildren, Jenna Calloway, Rachel Calloway and Isabella Banks; brother, Frank S. Waller; sister-in-law, Ellen Jane Brittingham; and former daughter-in-law, Vicky Banks-Quirk (Jim). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Banks, and her son, Brent T. Banks. 

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 17 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel. Reverend Dean Perdue officiated. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Bank’s memory to Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 West Market Street, Laurel, DE 19956. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
