The Delmar varsity field hockey team opened the season with a 6-0 win over Notre Dame Prep last Saturday at DE Turf in Frederica. Josie Hollamon netted two goals and had an assist and Logan Walls scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats.

“We’re very pleased with the way we played,” Delmar head coach Jodi Hollamon said. “We still have some things to work on. That’s why we’re here, to see what we need to grow on.”

The Wildcats were scheduled to face South River on Friday in Frederica, but the game was rescheduled due to the weather.

On Saturday, Josie Hollamon scored on a penalty stroke with 24:08 left in the first half for a 1-0 lead. Walls tipped in a goal (15:51), Morgan Fletcher scored a goal with Maci Bradford picking up an assist (2:10), and Morgan Bradford followed a shot by Hollamon on a corner with 41.8 seconds left to make the score 4-0.

Hollamon added a goal with 12:13 left in the second half with Morgan Bradford picking up the assist. Walls capped the scoring with 9:14 remaining for the 6-0 victory. Delmar outshot Notre Dame, 11-2, and held a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners.

“That (Notre Dame) was a good challenge for us, especially to play against someone you’re not used to,” said Hollamon. “This (turf) is what we should be playing on. Field hockey is meant to be played on turf.”
