The Wicomico County Council is seeking residents who are registered voters with diverse backgrounds that are interested in serving on a committee to review the County Charter for possible need of amendment to it. The current County Charter includes a requirement that at least every ten years the County Council is to appoint a Charter Review Committee “for the purpose of reviewing the Charter in full and submitting recommendations to the County Council.” (Section 1002-C).

Persons who volunteer to be considered for this important civic responsibility may expect the committee will conclude its work within approximately 12 months of meeting monthly, or as needed, at the discretion of the committee. The County Council intends to appoint committee members in March, and the committee will begin its work shortly thereafter. The time frame anticipated will enable the County Council to have sufficient opportunity to consider the Charter Review Committee’s recommendations, hold public meetings, and to prepare language for any proposed Charter amendments for placement on the ballot of the general election in 2022.

Candidates for appointment are asked to submit a resume with a brief statement of interest and any other information equipping them to undertake such a task to the Wicomico County Council Administrator at P.O. Box 870, Salisbury, MD 21803 or by email to All submissions must be received in the Council Office by February 15, 2021.

The County Council intends to appoint a committee which is representative of the residents of Wicomico County, Maryland. Persons who are interested in discussing the Charter Review Committee are invited to contact any member of the Wicomico County Council.
