Citizen of the Year

The Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce is looking for its 2019 Citizen of the Year to honor at their annual banquet. The citizen chosen is honored each year by the chamber in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the community of Delmar.

The Citizen of the Year must:

  • Be a resident of the Delmar School District;
  • Have made a contribution for the improvement of the community;
  • Show commitment and contributions through local church, social, business, school, chamber or other community related projects; and
  • Be a role model reflecting strong character.

Past honorees include: Ronnie Hastings, Doug Niblett, Bill Brittingham, Al Covington, Jay Green, Pete Pedersen, Dee McDonnell, Percy Elliott, Anthony Triglia, Robert Handy, Shawn Brittingham, Mary Lee Pase, Harry (Bunky) Naugle, Ronald Wilkosz, David Hearn, Dr. Wayne Bastian, John McDonnell, Joyce Figgs, Donna Wilkosz, John Layton, Pam Schell, Marion Handy, Peggy Moore, Michael Houlihan, Susan Uphole, Brenda Morris, Gary and Anna Humphreys, Russell Smart as well as last year’s recipient, David Burton.

Among the Delmar citizens honored who are now deceased are: Mora Irene Culver, Jean Ellis, J. William Gordy, A. E. Hantwerker, Edward McClaine, Joseph Morris Sr., Dr. Ernest Larmore, Hattie Moore, Irvin Aydelotte, Charles Truitt, Melba Hastings, George Leong and Linda Jones.

Nomination forms are available online at The ballot form may be returned to any of the locations around the Delmar area, emailed to or mailed to the chamber office at PO Box 416, Delmar, DE 19940. Ballot forms are also located on each ballot box.

Ballot boxes are located at The Bank of Delmarva, Delmar; Delmar Town Hall; Delmar Post Office; Delmar Public Library and M & T Bank in Delmar.
